DRX 255C MGB, Le Mans 1965 Canvas Wrap

DRX 255C, MGB Roadster was built by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) Competition Department at Abingndon to race at the 1965 Le Mans 24 hour race.
Essentially this MGB was a modified production car featuring lightweight aluminium panels, added aero dynamics and droop snout long nose (not fitted in this photograph), increased fuel capacity, and some basic safety features. The engine gearbox and axle were built for strength and reliability with a modest increase in power.
For the 1965 race Paddy Hopkirk and Andrew Hedges teamed up to drive starting the race with the likes of the mighty 7 litre Ford GT40’s, the V12 powered Ferrari 250 LM and the Shelby Daytona’s.
Running as Car 39 the diminutive MGB ran faultlessly and achieved 11th Overall and runner up in the GT 2 litre class just beaten by the Porsche 904 crewed by Herbert Linge (Germany) & Peter Nöcker (Germany). The race was won by the North American Racing Team Ferrari 250LM driven by Masten Gregory (USA), Ed Hugus (USA), and Jochen Rindt (Austria).
